SAHIWAL CITY
Sahiwal, is a city in the central Punjab and is the administrative centre of the division of Sahiwal. Located 180 km south of Lahore with a population of 2.5 Million (2017 Pakistan Census), is the 14th largest city of Punjab and the 22nd largest city in Pakistan. A small village on the Karachi-Lahore railway line during 1865 was named Montgomery after Sir Robert Montgomery, then Lieutenant-Governor of the Punjab. Its name was reinstated as Sahiwal in 1967 in honor of the Sahi Clan of Kharal Rajpoots, the native inhabitants of densely populated region between the Sutlej and Ravi rivers. The principal crops of this region are wheat, cotton, tobacco, legumes, potatoes and oilseeds. Cotton goods and lacquered woodwork are manufactured.
